Kevin the homeless man

Tomplum this is on my Facebook page, everyone commenting says it's Kevin?Keith Jones? to WiganNow

I think his name is Dennis, but not sure. Anyway, he is the homeless chap who usually hangs around the Peking Palace Takeaway on Poolstock Lane. Tonight, he has almost killed himself acting like the fool on a scooter type vehicle, has gone into the road and has been knocked down. I have seen him at the side of the road being attended to by paramedics with a blooded bandage around his head. Looks very nasty and will probably be taken into hospital for a few days. So if anybody is wondering where he is, that's your answer!

I'll go check it out nana, I do know he won't go in hospital by choice, So if he is in there, it must be bad, I'll let you know later,

yes he has family local, he is Wigan Born and bred, He was a 'bugger' at skool, mischievous but, not malicious, clever and not pretentious , a good athlete and daring, He joined the army and achieved the status to deliver , Black magic boxes of chocolates to all the fancy pants rich b*tches around the world, after his discharge, he was left to do what the army trained him to do, stay alive,
I'm pleased to report, he is still alive and well, ( or maybe not too well) recovering in his tent in the woods,

Just imagine how his behavior could have turned out if he had cause a passing motorist to swerve out of his way , but into the path of a young woman walking along the footpath with her children.
Then there the owner of the scooter, who might have lost his job because he cant travel to work this morning.

Pewfall. He isn't just homeless he's an alcoholic and offering him a beer isn't a good idea. Have you not read on this thread that he has almost killed himself on a scooter, fair enough his choice if he wishes to die, but he could have caused another person or persons to die due to his drinking habit. I am far from being a do gooder and have experience with ex service people who are homeless and alcohol and drug dependent, the last one was in April this year who was found dead through drink and drugs, the drink was from people like yourself who thinks it's a good idea to give an alcoholic something they should be avoiding. By all means go and have a chat with him take him some food, I would suggest some compo sausages he'll know what they are and would enjoy them, I'm told B & M sell them but I don't know, they are sausages in a tin of lard.

Hi Terry, why do you presume his accident had owt to do with drink ? Do you know he takes drugs ? If not why mention it? Anyroad loads folk in my job ex forces . i've known 2 die from alcohol but they guzzled spirits. right now i'm sat in a military base. No harm in giving someone 1 tin of weak % carling is there surely and having a chat? i'd say more harm in feeding him that lard. i once bought a scruffy tramp in london a posh cigar and chatted with him. Never seen someone smile so much.

Lindsay Yes you’re right. He is abusive at times, depending on how much ale he’s got in him. He shouted and swore at an 80 odd year old woman leaving the hairdressers. He’s also been racially abusive to the lovely shopkeeper too. Not a nice man I’m afraid.rom Facebook

Tom has gone to speak with the fella and is not judgemental. I 'd visit the chap if i were closer to home to form a real opinion. the flack on nana's post is mixtures of truth and twisted facts,
he does have an elderly Mum and there is a restricting order against Kevin to go to her house But not from his Mum, His brother and he do not get on so his brother and sister got the restricting order put in place,
Yes he did give abuse to a lady at the hairdressers who looked down her nose at him and made a derogatory remark, Yes he swore at the Chinese chippy owner when the Chinese shop owner told him to F''k off home, Kevin has lived in Poolstock and goose Green all his life so he took offense of an Asian telling him to go home, I cannot tell you he's an angel because he is not, he has many faults, as we all do, yes, he's an alcoholic and he has no intention of ever finding work, I'm just an onlooker and giving you the facts I know about him and mostly, he's nice guy,

Pewfall. Read my post properly, I stated that I have experience with ex service people who are homeless and alcohol and drug dependent, I know from Tom's posts that he is an alcoholic, I never suggested he took drugs only alcohol. Now I know that an alcoholic on a scooter is not a good idea is it? Giving an alcoholic a tin of beer (weak or not) is also not a good idea, he's worth more than that, as for the compo sausages they were in the military 4 and 10 man ration packs he may remember and with this guy living rough the lard would hardly do as much harm then the alcohol he consumes, I doubt he has much body fat.

Yes hes not only turning out to be a danger to himself, he is also a danger to the NHS staff and he general public.

TerryW, i respectfully read your post properly. You please read my post properly too : I say again you are assuming he was under influence of alcohol when the accident happened? Where is evidence of this ? I say again why did you spout on about drugs in your post? - Also who are you to judge the amount of body fat this chap has? You warble on about compo ration packs - We had last compo rations in the 1980's. I fondly remember the Spangles sweets.. I reassert I am in a military base right now. I spent all yesterday afternoon on a blunt harrowing course dealing with ethics and moral responsibilities in a non-civilian environment. Not much power point but what was shown on power point and the real dits of things that have happened in the likes of Afghanistan was sobering.
Please don't judge others and know what they've been through by your own opinion. I maintain i'd give Kev a 3 % tin of carling anytime and look forward to his story / ies anytime - that is if i were closer to home.

"you are assuming he was under influence of alcohol when the accident happened? "

He's an alcoholic need I say more? As I stated in my first post about a homeless ex serviceman "the last one was in April this year who was found dead through drink and drugs" that was the only time I mentioned drugs, I see no problem in that statement neither is there any accusation of the person discussed of him being a user.

So you are in a military base just now pray tell what that has that to do with this thread or indeed the person under discussion? Was there really a need to "reassert" or warble on about this in a second post?

By the way I never assume it's a bad habit and 80% of the time you get it wrong just as you have done assuming about my comments on drug use or the body fat he has on him, I watched the videos Tom kindly posted and noticed how he looked. If you are an ex serviceman you seem to have lost your attention to detail. Well do carry on with your irresponsible acts of giving alcoholic drinks of any strength to an alcoholic I'm sure you will feel you are doing him a favour. I'll leave that with you, have a nice day.

Hi Terry , you seem quite angry.

You are putting 2 +2 together and getting 12. Many alcoholics no longer dirnk and abstain foreverThey will remain alcoholics. .just like a smoker gives up cigs but will always remain a smoker. How do you know Kev's BAC at time of his accident caused his accident? You don't , you are making assumptions. The reason i mention i am in an military base is becaue the modern MOD is changing for better and reversing anthesis outdated opinions like yours for the better. We don't do anger any more in the military. I am sorry to upset you.

There you go again with your military base and MoD remarks, am I supposed to be impressed by this?, I'm afraid you are posting to the wrong person on these matters but I don't feel the need boast on this as you seem to do.

"The reason i mention i am in an military base is becaue the modern MOD is changing for better"

I'm sure your influence on the base will be greatly received and changes to service life put into immediate effect by said MoD, maybe add a few more points you have thought up to the army leadership code. By the way your rules of engagement leave a lot to be desired, very poor!

Goodbye.

Firefox. I thought that was obvious with all the posts and videos about the chap by Tom and others. This Pewfall is more concerned with letting us all know he's on a "military base" and due to that fact anything I say about giving an alcoholic a tin of beer is wrong and outdated. Moronic comments really i.e. " the modern MOD is changing for better and reversing anthesis outdated opinions like yours for the better".

I take it from that remark any serviceman/woman for whatever reasons and is drinking to excess should be given more alcohol of any strength.

Reet, deep breath - Yep Tom these days i work for MOD in a specialised function. No i don't live in Pewfall, I was born in Kent but don't tell Tonker.
Yes i am on a military base now but don't need to salute anyone these days.
Terry asks why i keep mentioning forces / MOD etc. Very fair point.
This post is about homeless Kevin.
Terry first broached the words "ex services" folk on his post on 22nd July. I presumed Terry knew that Kevin had served in the forces hence why i subsequently mentioned MOD. I may be incorrect.

Ex-forces historically are often not the best at smoothly blending back into civilian society hence why many end up on the streets. Perhaps this may explain why Kevin happily lives in the unorthodox way he does? I don't know.
Terry. I am quite happy for you to mock me with your smiley faces when I say the MOD is changing for the better.
When a young serviceman with a good career and long life ahead of him tragically shoots himself and his sticky brains are all over your desk you might have a bit more compassion and find your internet smiley faces aren't quite so amusing.
This is why i shamelessly reiterate the MOD is changing for the better - I am not proud to work for the MOD. I I am however proud that it is an organisation that has started to seriously recognise and support people serving, often many miles isolated away from home. This new focused attitude may well minimise future tragedy of your family or mine ? I will neither never take back the learnings on my recent course on suicide awareness. Best regards to you.

As for the comment about the "young serviceman with a good career and long life ahead of him tragically shoots himself and his 'sticky brains' are all over your desk" I find that you have done this young man a great disservice if it's true by posting the details which is rather disturbing, posted for affect I think. Young people of today and yesterday know what doing a job like being a police officer, or soldier is going to be like, it is no secret what sort of situations they will have to deal with, as is the case with all front line workers in this world, and this is explained to prospective candidates at the interview stage of the job selection, so no one can start a job like that and say that they did not know what they would have be dealing with.

If a person who starts such a job feels that they are not cut out for that type of job, then finish and go and do another type of job.

Hello Pewfall , thank you for that info, Although your description of that young soldier was a bit graphic I'm sure you meant it hypothetically, Anyways Kevin is not in anyway suicidal, He is happy living in the woods, If you know the area, its in the woods in the Westwood area, I can't be too descriptive because, He lives in a tent and he is vulnerable alone,
He's feral, like a fox living in the woods but comes out to areas where there is food/drink and to socialize , then goes back in the woods to sleep,
He won't accept help from the British Legion because, the first thing they want him to do is, Detox,
He is now 53 years old, he's got underlying conditions and if that wound on his head gets infected, he's in real trouble,
how would you or your dept deal with him, ?

I have not seen him for ages, but I saw him this morning going into St James's at Poolstock, so he must have gone in there to pray to the patron saint of tramps

And to have his breakfast

He came wheeling his bike around the corner from Pool Street, and he had some shopping bags, so I presume he had been to Asda to doo some Crimble shopping

The difference with him since I last saw him, was that he was dressed from head to toe in Hi Viz gear, so I presume that is to help him avoid having another RTA

This was at around 9.30am this morning, and he looked quite well

One of his stories was,
One night I was flying down little Lane on my bike and was fast approaching the metal fencing at the bottom when, I realized I was not going to stop, So I disembarked from my bike and did a few rolls to slow myself down, the bike crashed into the fence and al l my belongings was scattered in Little lane, some in the fence and some in Warrington road, So Igot them all back together then, I noticed a taxi driver laughing his 8ollix off and eating a pie,
Perhaps that taxi driver was Tommy 2 tittiers, ???

he won't hold that against Tommy because when he was at the shops he once told me the Wigan taxi drivers, and emphasized the word WIGAN, often ' help him out' when they stop for cigs where he was,

I was once walking under Skew Bridge, and you know how narrow the pavement is there, and there are railings too, because the bridge is too narrow, and I was walking towards Goose Green, when I heard a noise behind me, and a lad was tear arsin up on a bike under the bridge, I had to jump out of the way of him, but going past me it he wobbled and hit the grass bank after the bridge and fell of his bike with a clattering crash, he had a Asda hi viz jacket on, so he had probably just finished his shift, as he hit the ground, he let out a howl of pain, and I laughed me head off at him and called out "Nobhead" to him as I waked past

If you mean one of them plastic things no I don't, I can't see them working very well, they can stop someone sneezing in your face, but they don't filter the air like a mask does, but I doo wear a face mask outside all the time, in that I put it on before I go out, and make sure it is a nice tight fit on me face, and around me nose, so with me glasses and bob hat on, it is easier to put it on inside, and leave it on, instead of messing about outside with it, because if you get the Covid on your hands, and you touch your face whilst putting on the mask, you can become infected.

Me masks are medical grade masks, not those N95 medical masks, but decent masks

TTS, Kevin lives in his own world, he rides a bike with no brakes, no lights, wears no head protection, never wears gloves even in bitterly cold days, He would probably be aware of that Little lane was closed and did't worry about it until he needed to, In another conversation I had with him , he was telling me about the time he is thundering down Wallgate, from the top, past the bus stop near the station, its downhill and built up a fast rate of knotts, no brakes and he is hoping the lights are green, they were not and a bus was stopped, he shot over to the right to, avoid hitting the bus but, a big van turned up towards the station and blocked his path to safety so then, he had to rethink and go between the bus and big van and go on right hand side carriageway against the flow of traffic, he then weaved and bobbed his way until he found a gap to jump on the pavement, I told him he is a maniac and he agreed and said, " I like to be in dangers way and when I'm there, getting out of it, give me a big buzz"
He's an adrenaline junky, there is no cure for that, only the one time when, he meets the journeys end,
