Face masks

Started by: PeterP (11291)

Is it the north/south divide again ? London transport supply face masks FREE everywhere else you have to buy them. If you can find a shop that sells them some are charging £££s for one, If the government are heading towards making it compulsory to wear one in public then they should supply masks FREE of Charge to everyone

Anonymous statement from an A&E consultant in Surrey. No comment necessary really. Note this:

"Staff only wear face coverings/ masks & social distance when public facing, as soon as they are out of public view, the masks come off and social distancing is not observed. Indeed jokes are made about the measures, and I have heard staff express amazement that despite warnings on packets and at point of sales, telling people masks are totally ineffective and dangerous , the public still buy them, because a politician has told them too."

Released 08/07/20.
I am a consultant at a major , regional hospital in Surrey. By major you can take that to indicate that we have an A&E department. I had agreed to give an interview to an anti lockdown activist in which I would have revealed my identity. I have since changed my mind and only feel able to give an
anonymous statement. I have changed my mind simply because that all staff , no matter what grade, at all hospitals have been warned that if they give any media interviews at all or make any statements to either the Main Stream Press or smaller, independent press /social media we may, immediately be suspended without pay. I have a family, dependents and I simply cant do it to them. I therefore can not reveal my identity at this time but wish to state as follows:

In my opinion, and that of many of my colleagues, there has been no Covid Pandemic, certainly not in the Surrey region and I have heard from other colleagues this picture is the same throughout the country. Our hospital would normally expect to see around 350,000 out patients a year. Around 95,000 patients are admitted to hospital in a normal year and we would expect to see around a similar figure, perhaps 100,000 patients pass through our A&E department. In the months from March to June (inclusive) we would normally
expect to see 100,000 out patients, around 30,000 patients admitted to hospital and perhaps 30,000 pass through A&E. This year (and these figures are almost impossible to get hold of) we are over 95% down on all those numbers. In effect, the hospital has been pretty much empty for that entire period.

At the start, staff that questioned this were told that we were being used as ‘redundant’ capacity, kept back for the ‘deluge’ we were told would come. It never did come, and when staff began to question this, comments like, ‘for the greater good’ and to ‘protect the NHS’ came down from above. Now its just along the lines of, ‘Shut up or you don’t get paid’. The few
Covid cases that we have had , get repeatedly tested, and every single test counted as a new case. Meaning the figures reported back to ONS / PHE (Office for National Statistics & Public Health England) were almost exponentially inflated. It could be that Covid cases reported by hospitals are between 5 to 10x higher than the real number of cases. There has been no pandemic and this goes a long way to explain why figures for the UK are so much higher than anywhere else in Europe.
The trust has been running empty ambulances during lockdown and is still doing it now. By this I mean ambulances are driving around, with their emergency alert systems active
(sirens & / or lights) with no job to go to. This I believe has been to give the impression to the public that there is more demand for ambulances than there actually is. Staff only wear face coverings/ masks & social distance when public facing, as soon as they are out of public view, the masks come off and social distancing is not observed. Indeed jokes are made about the measures, and I have heard staff express amazement that despite warnings on packets and at point of sales, telling people masks are totally ineffective and dangerous , the public still buy them, because a politician has told them too.

We have cancelled the vast majority of operations and of these ALL elective surgery has been cancelled. That’s surgery that has been pre planned / waiting list. Non elective Surgery, this tends to be emergency surgery or that which is deemed urgent has been severely curtailed. The outcome of this is simple. People are at best being denied basic medical care and at worst, being left to die, in some cases, in much distress and pain.

Regarding death certification. All staff that are responsible for this have been encouraged where possible to put Covid-19 complications as reason for death, even though the patient may have been asymptomatic and also not even tested for covid. I feel this simply amounts to fraudulently completed death certificates and has been responsible to grossly inflating
the number of Covid deaths. The fact is that regardless of what you actually die of in hospital, it is likely that Covid-19 will feature on your death certificate. I have included with my statement the detailed published guidance from Government on Death Certification which shows how Covid-19, as a factor is encouraged to at least feature on a death certificate. Remember Covid-19 itself can not kill. What kills is complications from the virus, typically pneumonia like symptoms. These complications are in reality incredibly rare but have featured and a large amount of death certificates issued in recent months. As long as Covid-19 appears on a death certificate, that death is counted as Covid-19 in the figures released by the ONS and PHE. I genuinely believe that many death certificates, especially amongst the older 65+ demographic have been fraudulently completed so as to be
counted as Covid-19 deaths when in reality Covid-19 complications did not cause the death.

There have been Thursday nights when I stood, alone in my office and cried as I heard people cheering and clapping outside. It sickens me to see all the ‘Thank You NHS’ signs up everywhere and the stolen rainbow that for me now says one word and word only ; FEAR.

There are many good people in the NHS and whilst I do not plead forgiveness for myself, I do plead for them. Most are on low pay, they joined for the right reasons and I did and have been bullied and threatened that if they don’t ‘stay on message’ they don’t eat. I know that if a way could be found to assure staff within the NHS of safety against reprisals, there would be a tsunami of whistleblowers which I have no doubt would help end this complete and brutal insanity. I am finding it increasingly hard to live with what I have been involved in and I am sorry this has happened. To end, I would simply say this. Politicians haven’t changed, the country has just made a fatal mistake and started trusting them without question.

London does seem to be treated far better than other regions that's true.
On the subject of face masks we bought some from Tesco the other week, not good quality, gaps at on both sides I'm afraid.

Contains swearing

Now they are all wearing masks, but he isn't.They are fine, their masks protect them, and they also protect him. Brainwashed by politicians.

Well I think that wearing masks in shops is a good thing, because I am convinced that when I have caught the floo, it has always been from the big Asda at Newtown, and once that floo turned into pneumonia, and that wasn't nice

So if I go in a big shop like Asda, I now wear a mask, because for the first three months I would not go anywhere near a big shop, but that big Asda is like a cruise ship, it is a petri dish for germs

The wearing of a mask does not help much, because airborne viruses will pass straight through it, but they can help if someone sneezes on yoo, or at yoo, they can help keep the water droplets form the sneeze out ....

Face masks are given away free outside the Harris Museum in Preston. On the bus last week an inspector got on the bus and asked someone behind me to put on a mask. He didn’t know if that person was exempt. I then asked the inspector why he wasn’t wearing a mask. He just muttered something and got off. Do as I say not what I do,

Over in Spain, everybody is wearing facemasks. There are signs everywhere saying "Mascareta Obligatoria".
In supermarkets, you have to wear your mask and free plastic gloves.
All bars and restaurants have their staff wearing mask and gloves, but customers who are eating and drinking are exempted.
Police are active and are making sure everybody is co-operating.
They are strict, yet they've still had an outbreak in Leida, which is in the middle of nowhere.

We bought 4 boxes of 50 face masks from Boots for £100, so 50p each, cheap as chips.
We always wear a mask in the supermarket, we've stopped going in shops and town centres, but if we did we would definitely wear a mask.
I'm 73 with a heart condition, last thing I need is catching this horrible horrible bug.

I also have made myself two masks. I used leftover doubled over curtain material with a slip, for, as I have read inserted kitchen towel is good. The nosewires are pipe cleaners which I had in from other uses. Washable elastic made into loops at sides. Pipe cleaner and kitchen towel can be removed when masks need to be washed. So easy to make from scraps.

We need to stand up to our rights. The mandatory mask wearing is all an attempt to control us. Why are people accepting these draconian rules, which when you do your research you'll find they are not actually rules that are forceable by law but merely guidelines, but as per usual the sheep tow the line (sorry to be so blunt) and do as they are told even when there's serious health risks involved in wearing them, but we go along with it because the government tells us to.

There are lots and lots of people that are against this (just look at comments on videos on youtube) because they know they're not good for our health. There's a great channel by Carl Vernon:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJuNMCunRGk

If we continue to abide by these rules and not kick up a fuss and say NO, then it will only get worse, and they will introduce more rules that infringe on our personal rights and freedoms. Forget this "we have to wear one because of the virus". Where's the proof?. There's an overwhelming amount of evidence indicating this this "virus" does not exist.

Totally agree with nanajacqui, if they are going to make masks compulsory then do it sooner rather than later.
Just give folks a couple of days to buy some masks.
They were selling 10 disposable masks for £6-50 in Tescos this arvo, so 65p each, very affordable.

Government of Alberta are just going to issue 20million masks FOC. Already issued 13 million. Whilst the wearing of masks is to become compulsory in UK shops it still isn't compulsory to visit the shops. Seems a bit hit and miss to me. My understanding is roam the street and don a mask to shop. Come out and no mask in a coffee shop. Mask back on to go into a shop. Mask off to have a beer. Reminds me of smoking areas on planes in old times. Rows 24-30 OK to smoke. Everyone congregated at the back. Folk on rows 22 and 23 died of lung cancer five years later.

It’s an absolute bl**dy nightmare trying to work out when to put your mask on and take it off.
My current system when we do our ‘big shop’ at the supermarket is this.
Wash hands, dry and put on mask.
Get in car, drive to Tesco and shop.
Leave mask on and drive home.
Get in house, wash hands and remove mask with thumb and first finger tips very carefully.
Place mask in foot operated pedal bin.
Wash hands.
The reason for putting the mask on in the house is that the moment you get in the car, your hands could be dirty off the steering wheel and door handles.
I clean the steering wheel and door handles quite often, but not every day, it’s a faff.
The reason for washing hands when you get home is you’ve been touching dirty surfaces and you don’t want to touch any part of your face with dirty hands.
Then a final hand wash cos you’ve handled a dirty mask.
Am I paranoid or just a hygiene freak!!!!!! LOL

Mick, I think you need to know that before all this coronavirus started, I was a germophobe and still are, and I do wash my hands a lot.
From what I have read, the virus can be spread by air born water droplets and sneezes, but by far the easiest way to catch it is by touch contamination.
When you’re in the supermarket you are touching surfaces which have been touched by literally thousands of people of which admittedly a small number, will be contaminated, so if you make contact with your eyes, nose or mouth with dirty hands, there is a good chance of being infected.
I am 73 with a heart condition and I don’t think I would survive getting the bug
I think my germophobic paranoia is justified !!!!!!! LOL

It does make you wonder what the next thing we will be made to do in this 'new normal'. I'm guessing it will be to wear these masks in almost all places (including outside) apart from when your inside your home. It wasn't that long back that I saw a video with that Jenny the scientist talking to Boris saying masks were not useful,

I did laugh at one of the comments in that video posted by ashtonman1 though

'Wearing a mask to stop a virus is like wearing underwear to stop farts'.
