New Road/Warington Road v Poolstock/Poolstock Lane

Started by: Tommy Two Stroke (15347)

Following 0 years concerns about unscroopilous taxi drivers taking the long way round to rip off the public, tonight I clocked both ways from the junction with Poolstock and Chapel Lane, that being the new road way to the Marus Bridge Junction and the old way straight down Poolstock

New road way 2.0 miles
Poolstock way 1.3 miles

I thought the new road way would be longer but it came in at it being 0.7 of a mile longer than the Poolstock way, which is just a smidgen under three quarters of a mile, so if someone goes by a Hackney Carriage via the new road instead of Poosltock, the fare will clock an extra £1.30

But if the taxi went down poolstock lane and was stuck in traffic would the fare be more due to waiting?

TTS, I think you must have grabbed the wrong end of the stick. It was Fat Mick who made the insinuations and I quoted his statement in my post.

My reply was in full support of taxi drivers and critical of his insinuations as I thought it was an unwarranted insult to the integrity of those in the profession.

It is still a good point about unscrupulous taxi drivers using the new road to increase fares, but the law says the taxi driver has got to take the shortest route to a destination, not the quickest route, so runs will have to be done along Poolstock and Poolstock Lane.

It could be more in waiting time or more accurately in 'crawling' time, if it was a bad traffic jam ....

This reminds me of going to Skem or as posh people say Skelmersdale, the quickest route to parts of Skelmersdale is by the M58 motorway, instead of travelling through Orrell Post, Up Holland etc but it costs a few quid more, and Skelmersdale Taxis used to charge a lot less than the Wigan Hackney rate, and their fares were not metered, so they could offer a fixed rate to Wigan, going anyway they choosed, which could be by the motorway, but when a Plastic Mushroom, used to get a Wigan Hackney to Skem, and yoo tried to explain to it that the Wigan taxi fares were metered, and that if you went up the motorway, it would cost them a lot more, and bearing in mind the fare would be more expensive anyway, going the shortest route, it created quite a few arguments ....

I myself do not work in Wigan anymore, so I don't know how the situation is panning out with the new road and taxis

The original plans where for poolstock just past the Chinese restaurant to be buses only to encourage traffic to use the new road but I don't know if this will still be brought in

Haven't heard the term mushroom for years, very fitting that.

Well a mushroom is a scouser, because they have big heads and they live in poo

Skem people are known as plastic scousers, because they are not troo scousers, hence plastic mushrooms
