One is bent a bit upwards. I might take it off later.

Anyroadup, last week I was at Tesco's in Haydock and, as I arrived, a lad and girl arrived at the side of me on a ZZR1400. We got talking, as you do, well, as 'I' do, and I told him I'd fell off. He said 'bobbins' are commonly known to cause a lot of damage to frames and engines, due to their fastenings, and he wouldn't use them. He said he'd had a ZZR1100, and went for the 1400 for a ride to the South of France last year. He hadn't raised his handlebars either!

Washed the bike yesterday, leather fed the seat and cleaned the exhaust. Spent the longest cleaning the wheels (Noticed the podwer coater had powder coated the balancing strips).
Took it for a spin to dry off and laid it up. Got it out this Morning and had to use WD40 to clean the still very dirty wheels.

Time for a quiet amble now.

On the news Alderly Edge..performance cars owned and driven by Drongo's..razzing through the streets...an affluent area and being invaded by neighbouring Drongo's..why this made the news I know not. (In a previous life) any complaints of excess speed or dangerous driving we blitzed it..by fair means or foul we nailed their caps on...cheshire force was and still is run by the hooray henry's and more than likely it's their spoilt sprogs of family of farmers...footballers..business folk and the like that are creating this problem on their own doorstep. I'll tell you a story, then ....

Years and years ago, when I was but a lad, six of us went out forra raaaaide on t'baaaaikes, laaaaike. We went to Southport and, on the way back, down t'Rainford By-Pass, we turned left towards Crank, just before the Lancs..
Flying along that country lane, past the Red Cat, bottom of the hill, left towards Billinge Hill.
Anyroadup, I'm first on GT550. Then Alan on RD400 and a couple more on RD250s, Stezzer was miles behind on his RD250.
We pulled up, opposite that farm, just before that little bridge. Suddenly, Stezzer shot past us all, full whack. Didn't know about the right hand bend just after the bridge!
He hit the bridge as quick as lager turns to piss. Took off and ended up in that potato field at the other side!
Had to wait an hour or so, before he recovered and rode slowly home.

And the moral of the story is, take care if you don't know what's at the other side!

Here it is!

Seeing as how this is a biker thread, I thought I'd put a link to one of my favourite saaaaites, laaaaike.. Although, I do realise that not all 'bikers' are really 'bikers' and some may be more 'biker' than 'racer'. It follows that the site might not suit everybody. Especially people who think a 'motorcycle' starts and stops with Harley Davidsons'!

Here we go ..... The YAMAHA TZ

Q: What makes a 'biker' a 'biker'?

Riding motorbikes? Owning motorbikes? Liking motorbikes?
Listening to (what's regarded as) 'biker' music?
Wearing a black leather jacket? Having long hair, a beard and no front teeth?
A combination of some, or all, of those?

What d'you think? Laaaaike?

I think bikers fall into a few categories. You'll get those who buy a cheap bike purely to get to work and back, then sell it to buy a car and never go near them again. Then you'll have those who do racing/trials etc. Love riding but wouldn't dream of using one on the roads. Then there are those that have bikes intermittently all their adult lives. ( me ), you sell one but can never say you'll never own another one. They get into your blood. It never leaves you. You can walk down the street and see one parked up or riding past and you'll think, mmmm, that's nice. Wouldn't mind a hour on that. Some of the most honest/decent people I know ride bikes.

I've owned a Harley. Very heavy, crap brakes, didn't go round corners, not what you'd call fast, but I'll tell you what, every time I took it out I had the biggest smile on my face. Park it up somewhere and you always knew where you'd left it, there was a crowd round it. I eventually sold it to a B..l end from down south, big mistake. My next bike will probably be a beemer or similar as I,d like to get into blood biking and I couldn't see me doing that on a Fat Boy. If I could own 3 bikes ( I know, I,ve only got 1 ar.e ) They would be, 1- Investment - Vincent HRD/ Triumph Hurricane/ Manx Norton, 2- day to day - Beemer/ Triumph Speed Triple, 3 - Pleasure - Custom built Harley :). It was run by Chris Hall, Tom Hall's son, in the mid to late 70's. I was at Old Boston at the time and a friend of mine, from Upholland, worked for them.
Chris lived across from my wife when she lived in Shevington. That's how I got into the racing.
It was fun while it lasted, but I'd probably be well-off now if I hadn't got hooked!

Recreational motorcycling in England permitted under new measures
COMO Recreational riding PR

Published on 11 November 2020 by Mike Waters

Tags: COMO, COVID-19, coronavirus, lockdown, press release

Filed under categories: BMF News, The world of motorcycling

The Coalition of Motorcycling Organisations (COMO) has examined legislation and guidance for the new lockdown in England. If you are not required to self-isolate, the rules do permit riding alone or with one other individual. You are still subject to the social distancing rules and other measures.

Many riders have been asking whether riding alone is allowed under the new lockdown rules. The government has clearly stated that riding as essential travel is allowed. We looked into rules on riding for leisure and mental well-being, which are not so clear.

We have studied both the legislation and the guidance and have concluded that the rules do permit riding for pleasure, alone or with a mate.

You can ride for recreation on public roads so long as you are:
- on your own
- with one person from another household, or
- with the people you live with (your household) or your support bubble

Bikers congregating in groups is not allowed under the legislation and will draw unwanted attention, as will any reckless riding. Please use good judgement and avoid any action that will adversely affect the reputation of motorcycling.

We will publish a revised version of the Covid-safe motorcycling guidelines once we understand the situation after the current lockdown period expires.

The Coalition of Motorcycling Organisations membership consists of representatives from the British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF), the Motorcycle Action Group (MAG), the Vintage Motorcycle Club (VMCC), the Trail Riders Fellowship (TRF), IAM RoadSmart, the Auto Cycle Union (ACU), the Triumph Owners’ Motorcycle Club (TOMCC) and Biker Down UK.

Have your say on our Facebook page.

You can join the BMF and help us protect the rights of motorcyclists for just ÂŁ28 a year. Find out more here.
