When I was down under having my winter break I got talking to a Maori wild camper, and he told me how he keeps warm in a tent
You put a upside down terracotta plant pot over tea light candle, and the whole of the plant pot warms up to keep the tent warm and it can also warm up a tin of soup.
Dont know what our friend Kev is using but I wonder if he knows about this idea.

yes I've seen that hack before, someone recommended it for keeping plants warm in a greenhouse, it works but someone has to swap the candle in the middle of the night, they only last 4 hours at best,
Kev rely's on what nature provides, insulate your own body heat, double sleeping bag in a gortex cover,

I would use a thicker candle that lasted all night.

Must be nicer to have some warm air inside the tent than sat wrapped up in a bag all day and night

If this guy is ex forces which I think I have read somewhere he will know his field craft, the most important thing in cold weather is to know how to layer your clobber, preparation is the key which I suspect he will have sorted. First layer of clothes is the 'wick' that draws your moisture away from the skin and keeps you dry, wool is best. Next is your insulation, wool again or feather down jackets etc, both trap the warm air inside, last thing is to keep you dry from the weather a waterproof jacket, Gortex is good. Keep clear of fingered gloves as they separate the fingers and allow more surface area to be exposed and get cold, wool mittens are best but not good for dexterity etc, if you need to scratch your arse and stuff. Good footwear are a life saver loosen the laces a bit for circulation, Gortex again with wool socks, oh never forget a hat your bonce is a big heat loser. Keep your fluids up too. If you are getting out and about reduce all of the above body layers because you will sweat and it will freeze and you'll get very cold again.

Remember shivering is your bodies defence mechanism listen to it and wrap up.

Yes Terry he knows there is help but, It always comes with rules and conditions, A big condition is, they'll want him to ' dry out' , Sadly alcohol is his ruler now, it helps him forget the nightmares, helps him through the days, kills the pains and eases the suffering, he'd rather be in the woods with a bottle of cider than in a home for ex soldiers on re hab for now, He's 52 years old now so I fear soon he won't have a choice, his age and lack of proper nutrients will catch up, and he's aware of that too,
