Their, there, they're
Where, were, ware, wear, we're
New and knew
As and has
Misused apostrophes
Bad grammar

Seriously? This is a board designed to COMMUNICATE and people do that whichever way they are able. I've known many folk who are dyslexic but there is no shame in that, as long as they are able to COMMUNICATE to others.

I still read on here, but rarely post any longer because of the immature attacks and infantile bickering which is non-productive.

Jarvo, I must admit that I too am guilty of the occasional grammatical error. However, I have perused some of my historic posts and it is apparent that this is due to when I post from my phone and predictive text takes over.
But, my main reason for getting into a rage over grammar is in the rules of the apostrophe. The rule is quite simple and I am particularly annoyed when shop signs are blatantly ignorant of the rules.
I now offer a poem I published a while back...

I was absolutely furious

the other day

when I realised that

someone

had nicked my apostrophe

but the worse crime

was committed

by the person who returned it

and

put it back in the wrong place!!!

The male cleaner of the old horrible toilets down Wallgate had a visitor who was a new supervisor,he asked the cleaner to sign his name on a form, just to confirm he was the cleaner, the poor chap told him he was illiterate so therefore couldn't sign. The supervisor told him that wasn't acceptable, and was fired, the poor chap had worked there for years. To cut a long story short he gathered what money he had saved and took himself off to America.
He discovered through friends that he had a business brain and soon became a millionaire. At a dinner party one night one of his friends said "Just imagine all this wealth and you still can't read nor write where would you have been if you could" to which he said "I'd be down Wallgate cleaning toilets"..My Grandma told me this, she lived in Wallgate at the time this happened.

Once upon a time every town had lots of public toilets.
These days there doesn't appear to be any drive by Councils to make them available. I've visited many towns that don't provide any; crazy when it's what people not only want but need. I've seen the results of market research where toilets appear high priority, but mostly ignored by the people who have prompted the research. It's as though the people in the 'high castle' who make the decisions say "OK, we see what you think you want, but really you would be better off with the alternative facilities we intend to give you!'
