Springs Road, Kitt Green.

Started by: christi (206)

As a youngster I used to "hang out" with a samll gang, in the times of when you were safe to wander. We all used to go for walks into Porters Wood and sometimes across the farmers field which ended up in the back garden of what is now the Vale Royal. What I would like to know is does anyone have any idea why a track has been laid quite close to Heinz that goes right across those fields towards Vale Royal, but seems to end in nowhere?

Christi,
This road was laid to permit contractors plant to access the area to install a new footbridge over the stream that runs behind Heinz's. I think they have left it in to retain access for routine maintenance etc.

Hi christi

Porters wood was certainly a main playground area for young kids when it was safe ta wander as you said.

I can rmember a gang of us playing in there, and in later years used to walk the path throught to gathurst station.

the 1950's and 60's were great times

Britboy, Ah! I remember it well. We always used to give the Signalman(near Gathurst Station) a shout and sometimes he would let us go up into the signalbox. We used to paddle and skim stones in some part of the brook where it windened out into a peaceful lovely little pool. Up on the top path where you could get through to the Bird in'th Hand - one of the residents of the cottages you passed would sometimes ask if you wanted a drink of home made lemonade! Not much chance of that happening now! Quite a bit of building work has, sadly, been done in that area now !!!!

I'd forgotten about Porters Wood - must be getting old (or the booze) we used to hang around there, and Dean Wood in the Early 60's
