My grandfather, 200036 Colour Sgt Francis Morgan Taylor. CQMS of 'B' Company 1/5 Manchester Regt. He enlisted in the Territorial Force on 30 April 1908 at the age of 16 and served in Gallipoli and later on the Western Front for which he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. In June 1915 his rank was Corporal but 6 months later on the 17 Dec 1915 he was promoted in the field in Gallipoli to Colour Sgt. for which his rate of pay was 3 shillings and one pence. In June 1916 at Wigan Drill Hall he was payed £5 as a bounty for re-engaging.He lived at 367 Warrington Rd and was well known around the Spring View area. His father Isaac Fletcher Taylor was the first ever Labour councillor in Ince and his son Bob was an Ince councillor and later became the leader of Ince Urban District Council.

He didn't have an easy war. Many men from the parish were in the 1st/5th, and many died at Gallipoli in 1915. We have a pic in our parish's Millenium Album of Ince Council at the time when Mrs Sharett was Chairman. Bob Taylor is among the Councillors pictured.

Thanks Reverand, I have found the pic of Bob Taylor at the Council meeting and borrowed it for my family collection.
