Teddy Rouke Norman Higham

I remmember the Aspey's, the Heavysides. the Higham's and there's a couple of faces that I recognise but can't put a name to them. They where happy days, with the rivalry between Canal Street, Holt Street and the Woodhouse Lane kids, no drugs/gund/knives then!!!. We might have been poor but we enjoyed ourselves, play ing "Piggy" "Throw ot can" "Hide and seek" I could go on. 60 odd years ago, who would a thowt wid still be eerr?

As Julie says Whittles came from around here they were also connected to the Harmers who lived in Canal St. My Gt Grandmother Alice Harmer married Richard Whittle in 1895

Comment by: derek wilde on 17th May 2013 at 14:43

Ian McL - My great grandparents also called Harmer lived at no's 3,13, & 22 Canal Street around the time you mention. I am researching my family tree and would be keen to see if we are in anyway related.Feel free to contact me on my email address.
