With all the shields and trophies proudly on show St Barnabas was an excellent team and a force to be reckoned with.
It's been a long time since those houses along Scot Lane were there, the last of them being demolished in the early 1960s, I couldn't remember the names of the streets off there so having looked them up on a map - the first is Earl Street with Noble Street second along and the building farthest away is Crabtree House, there was also a barn along there too where Mr Billy Ashton kept his horse and cart from off which he sold fruit and vegetables around the area.
St. Barnabus Marsh Green won the Laithwaite Shield in 1934-35 according to the roll of honour. That shield is pictured to the right of the image. Hope this clears up any confusion of date rather than adding to it.
This photograph shows the team from the 1934/35 season. They played in the Wigan Sunday School League and won the league and cup double. My dad is on the left hand side of the goalkeeper.
