David,ithink near Gerrards Bridge/slag lane ,
from being a young boy in 1940s i think this photo was taken on the far side of scotchmans flash opposite what used to be the railway, thats what we would call the island, and looking across ince moss towards platt bridge.
in front of the head gear the wagons used to fill canal barges there with coal. the light grey strip in the middle of the photo is the brick wall running along the flash and holding the canal bank

its not scotsmans flash the spit that goes into the water and the foreground are not from the brook outfall near bor avenue worsley mesnes
This location is definitely Pennington flash,today a hide is situated on the ground nearest the camera ,the strip of land left of centre is known as the spit,...if in doubt go have a look
