Isn't this Mr Frank Pelley, who was for many years the N.U.M. Secretary, at the Maypole Colliery, Abram. He was an excellent union man. Every miner had the utmost confidence in him. If it is the Mr Pelley, whom I think it is. I will add more later.

J. Smith. Is Mr Frank Pelley, the person whom I believe it to be. Relating to my first comment, or not?

Albert, I think this is Frank Pelley who lived in Ince. He had a son Brian and a daughter Margaret.

Thank you j. Smith,& Irene. This is the Frank Pelley, that I knew. I had been to his home, in Kingsway on a few occasions. In fact it was Mr Pelley, who was instrumental, in getting my dad his, N.C.B. weekly compensation, plus a lump sum, after his suffering for a long time, with a chest complaint, brought about through working down the pit. Also Mr Pelley arranged for my dad, at the latter end of 1946, to be in the group of miners' suffering from lung diseases, to go, as guests of the Czechoslovakian government, to a Spa, and chest clinic, in Czechoslovakia, for a month. They flew from Croydon airport, in a Dakota.
I also have cause to be thankful to Mr Pelley. One morning when I was sixteen, I overslept, and just missed the last man riding cage. They had started to wind coal. The powers that be, stopped me two days pay. Mr Pelley took my case up, and got my pay stoppage rescinded. He was brilliant at his job. Many other Maypole miners' had cause to be thankful to him.

Frank Pelly,(it was spelt Pelly when I knew him)was at Parkside in the early 60s.

Comment by: Albert. on 27th September 2014 at 13:04

You are most likely correct Spud. I knew him in the forties, and very early fifties. It is so long ago, I had forgotten the exact spelling of his name. I apologize.

I lived next door but one to Frank Pelly in Kingsway, Ince.He was the only person who had a telephone in the street in the 1940's He had it because of his N.U.M. duties. Margaret was older than Brian.

do you were Brian pelley lives now

Comment by: Albert. on 30th September 2014 at 13:21

J smith. If Joe is unable to help you, possibly the Wigan telephone directory can assist you. Especially if there is a B. Pelly,Pelly is a rare name. Living in Blackpool, I only have a 2002 Wigan directory. Just one Pelly shown. I traced a cousin by this method. I knew her married name, and eventually found her brother in law, in Billinge. At that time she was then living in Manchester.

Comment by: Brian Pelly on 30th September 2014 at 19:29
