In general I’m not a fan of colourisation of black and white photos and this is no exception. Only expensive software seems to do a great job and this colourisation which I am “guilty of” is not expensive. However, what seems to work well are the individual portraits, especially when I compare it to the original black and white photo.
This is achieved by “enhancing” the image. It does not, in my opinion work well on the full photo but the individual portraits I think do work well, perhaps better in black and white rather than “colour”. This photo is 82 years old.

It is of two Welsh friends both signed by Wigan in the 1930’s from South Wales and both had been policemen in their home towns. Both were involved in the war, Percy Moxey with the RAF and Gwyn Williams with the Welsh Guards and both were to pay heavily. Percy with his life when he was killed in a 1942 bomber crash accident and Gwyn when he was seriously injured when he was shot through the head while serving in North Africa, miraculously he survived. Percy had been married for less than a year. Gwyn returned to civilian life but naturally his life was changed forever, his elder brother was the famous Rugby Union star Bleddyn Wiliams.
