First Cup Final I went to. Great experince apart from the result. I loved the old wembley when it was 100,000 capacity and the atmosphere was amazing. When they reduced it to 80.000 all seater it was all right but seemed to go flat without the extra 20.000 given the distance from the pitch. I don't like the new Wembley at all, apart from better toilets. Old Trafford is far better given nearness to pitch

I was there aged 14 when I supported both Latics and Rugby. Saints won 21-2 because Wigan had no recognised hooker playing and Alex Murphy bent the rules so that there were loads of scrums and Saints won all the ball.

I remember I was at St Helens tech in 1966, the Friday before the final the ladies in the refec at the tech put a giant photo of the Saints team up,after 20 minutes they had to take it down due to the amount of pies being thrown at it.
Wigan had no recognised hooker as Colin Clarke had been sent off just before the final, Bill Sayer who had previously played for Wigan was hooking for Saints, Murphy kept going offside and although Wigan got a penalty the scrum down ensured saints got the ball back(in those days hookers hooked the ball)so basically Wigan had no ball. It wasn't one of my best Wembley days.

Hi Jeff. I think I remember you from WGS days. Are you the same ? I never had you down for a Rugby follower. Your addiction to the Latics was legendary even then.

Carolean - Yes I attended WGS. After England won the World Cup, I chose to solely follow the Latics

Tom Woossey played hooker for Wigan in that game. Of course he was not a regular hooker.
