I used to play for Blackrod in the West Lancs league, have played in this ground a few times, nice club.

Is that an old railway carriage in the background being used as a pavilion? I seem to recall that Dalton cricket club near the Prince William at Ashurst Beacon used an old railway carriage for a pavilion. Does anybody else remember that?

Cromptons Recreation and Sports Club in Ashton also had a
railway carriage as a pavilion.

I remember the old carriage, if memory serves it was a light green colour, at least in the early 1960s it was. As a child it fascinated me.

In 2010 I put up a set of pics showing the coach being craned into the ground - under "Spring View" in "Places".

It looks like carriage from USA railways.

Front right with bat Tommy Green, don't know others on photo(before my time)But I have shown Frank Geary who will name quite a few when he gets round to it. He has informed me that it was Spring View V and invitation team, so quite a good number of players are from different clubs in the area.

I remember the Moss Lane coronation party held in the railway pavilion in 1953

I think the player standing 2nd left in the middle row is Norman Hartley from Norley Hall CC.
