My all time favourite player, fair enough i could name a dozen or more great players, before,during and after his time,but if anybody ran his weight Mick Sullivan did. As you say Alan,as hard as nails.

He had a reputation for, as you say, "being as hard as nails", unfortunately he also came with the baggage of being classified as a "dirty player". If you saw his "tackle" if you can call it that, on Archer a key man in the Workington side in this final, you'll understand the tag - personally i think it won Wigan the match, Archer was in a daze for the rest of the game. I am a Wigan fan but I believe you win fairly not by any means.

Happy to say, I got to know and like Mick, both as an individual and a player. On the field he could always be counted on to provide superb photogenic moments that earned me a few quid back in the day.
