Correct Jem –Ellery went under the sticks to be hit late on the floor by Graham Eadie – the start of the ‘8’ – should have been a record score but Yorkshire ref decided to 'lend a hand'!

I know Billy B is probably everyones choice as Wigans greatest player, but to people under the age of 45 who never had the privilage to see him play ellery would be the choice. Played nearly every position at the club and scored record number of trys for a "forward". Won everything in the game, successful in australia and a successful coach..

Played on one leg for quite a while and was still a brilliant player!

I saw both, they were truly great players but my father who played 10 years for Wigan alongside and against the likes of Jim Sullivan, Brian Bevan, Nordgren, Gee, Egan, Foster etc., etc., would say the same. Ellery played in the same position (loose forward) and dad always said when Hanley played he got through so much quality work that it was "unfair" on the opposition since it was like facing a team with 14 men, he also rated Andy Gregory and quite a number of others.

When the Aussies speak so highly of a British rugby league player you know he's good.Best I've ever seen & so glad he played his best rugby for Wigan.Simply the best!!
