A magnificent playing career spanning three decades from 1921-1945
Holds three Wigan career records which I am sure will never be beaten - Most appearances 774, most goals 2317 & most points 4883. What a record. My dad used to tell me this fellow could kick the old style leather ball 50 yards no problem; and a gentleman as well. What price a ‘Sully’ today?

My father played in the same team as Jim. No doubt about it Jim was a phenomena of his age. Jim was a prodigious kicker but also amazingly accurate. My father tells the story of Jim asking him during training to stand on the touchline at the halfway line while Jim kicked the ball "out of hand" from under the posts. Time and again my father told me he would not have to move more than a yard either way, as the ball soared into the air, before dad caught it.
