Was Mary Ann born 1849 the daughter of John Penman and Susannah Farnsworth

This is also my great great grandmother. In answer to your question Her father was Thomas Penman who was born in Manchester c1820 and her mother was Nancy Ann Hagan who was born in Ireland. Thomas' father was George Penman who was born in Ireland c 1789. I don't know if Thomas had a brother named John but he could have done. This branch of the Penman family seemed to move quite a lot between Scholes/Ince and County Durham

Thanks for the reply. My interest is through my wife's grandmother who was Agnes Penman b 1911 in Scholes. Her parents were Thomas Penman (born Wigan) and Elizabeth Sheen b Tunstall Staffordshire. Being Penman is somewhat an unusual name, no doubt probably both families will be related
