From the left, John, Lizzy, Annie, then sitting on the wall my father Billy aged 1yr & Joe. We think the lady standing by the door is Elizabeth's mother Ann Gaskell. The photo was taken in 1907. All the children were wearing clogs, even my Dad at the age of 1

Is the house one of the row on Ormskirk Road, just opposite the Bowling Green pub?

It's great to have an old family photo like this one,Helen.I have one of my father and his three sisters taken about the same time.

I would have to ask my cousin Fred about that Mick but I don't think it can be as that row of houses was pulled down some time ago, think Fred has pics of the work in progress. I'll find out.

Glad you like the picture, mine is a copy, my brother in Seattle has the original.

The house was 149 warrington road and stood about opposite to the entrance to rathbones exit road.the site is at present covered with daffodils and trees. the lady in the doorway is ann bradshaw, the widow of john who was killed in the 1877 explosion at blundells colliery, and grandmother to the children on the photo

During my family history research I discovered that a relative of mine from Hindley married a William Gaskell Bradshaw at St Marks in Newtown 1894. They lived in Tunstall Lane in 1901.

I think Fred is mistaken with either the number.or location no 149 Warrington Rd would have been further up, beyond Skew Bridge.

I think that it was 49. After the children had married and moved away, Grandma and grandad moved across the open yard to 10 Victoria St.Their neighbours were Bradleys on one side and Scaldwells on the other.

Yes Fred it would have been no 49, the row between the Mechanics and Stanley St. they were demolished in the late sixties/early seventies.
