This pic is of Joseph (Joe) Gaskell, my great grand uncle. He was born in Ince in 1881, the son of James Gaskell. He married Elizabeth (Lizzy) Matthews in 1906 and had one son James (Jimmy). He was a Blacksmith but also an Independent Methodist preacher and regular attender of Westwood Chapel.

I think that Joe may well have come from Warrington Road. His wife's family lived there and they spent their married life in nearby William Street. I'm related to Joe's wife, so I haven't really done any research into his family. He did have a son Jimmy though, who I think was married to Hilda. Do you remember ever meeting Joe?

Do you know if there was a sister or Sarah Gaskell that married a Blakeley?

Dear Paul, I think Joseph may have been the brother of my G.G. grandad Edward Gaskell, also son of James and living in the Warrington Lane / Scholes area - if he is then thank you so much for putting this picture up,it is the earliest thing i have ever seen that is in someway connected to my family
