The date of the picture is March 3rd. A few days later on St Patrick's night, March 17th. Tom left for London to return to France and the war. it should be pointed out that as a holder of the Victoria Cross he did not have to return. On March 27th 1918 a few days short of his 30th birthday he was killed. He lies buried at the British Military Cemetery at Douchy-les-Ayette France.
