Soon after this photograph was taken. My aunt and her little daughter set sail for Singapore, later on Malaya, to join her husband who was a Senior Technician in the RAF. After being stationed there for a few years they ended up in Aden and only came back in the early sixties. They must have met when she was in uniform in the WAAF. I always wanted to to do what she did, but my dad wouldn't allow it!
They're lovely photos Veronica,I always wanted to be in the Wrens..but my Mam went mad when I mentioned it to her..who knows where we'd have been by now.
Veronica: Just going from your family photos that you have sent in before, the little girl is the spitting image of your Mam.
Thank you Maureen and John. My mam had 4 sisters and Lily was the favourite. There was a likeness between them all I think. Sometimes outsiders do see a likeness that family can't. I remember seeing her off on the train at the station and her wearing her uniform. I think I was about 4or 5. Strange what you remember ....my dad wouldn't hear of me 'joining up'. I sent off for some literature and when it came he threw the lot on the fire!! Perhaps that's why I ended up at the ROF instead of the RAF (women's!). ;~)). Janet turned out a lovely girl as well.
Beautiful family photo Veronica, very glam lady !
Thank you Elizabeth. There seems to one in every family that did more than the usual 'run of the mill' .
This is a lovely photo Veronica, your Aunt Lily is a lovely looking lady.I can see the resemblance of your mum in Janet, like John G said.I'm glad you didn't join up, you may have gone abroad like Aunt Lily, and we wouldn't have been having coffee morning's, and reminiscing.xx
I have made up for it since though Edna - travelling here and there.....
Veronica. A lovely photograph to treasure.
I have only just realised this lady is a relative of yours, Veronica. What a lovely photo. .
Thanks Irene, she seemed to be the glamorous one amongst 5 sisters. There were other photos of her in some lovely dresses, I don't know where they went to..all these kind of studio photos.
I'm the little girl in the photo above. I must have been about 18 months old or 2. Veronica was right when she says it was just before we sailed to Singapore to meet my father who was already there. He was stationed at RAF Seletar.
