The distinctive front cowl over the dynamo or magneto was a feature on the 1930 Norton Model 20 500 cc. Yours for circa £50 in the day.

Is that a hand shift at the side of the petrol tank ?

Yes it has hand change gears, probably three.

John - I can see the bulb horn behind the headlamp, but I can also see what looks like the noisy end of a Klaxon horn under the petrol tank. If I'm right, how was it operated? I have a mechanical Klaxon short trumpet cycle horn of similar proportions, which is operated by a simply push button on the top - so perhaps this was an electrical version? But why have two horns?

Rev David - The short answer is I don't know, but I presume that the bulb horn was not fit for purpose so Joe used the on board 6v to power a Klaxon horn, more commonly found on cars and lorries at that time. As you no doubt know Klaxon was a brand name coined from the Greek verb klazo for shriek.
