To me, he seems to have similar features to Brian Wilde, (Foggy) ‘Last of the Summer Wine’.

Parts of Ernie's house date back to the 14th century.

It would be nice to know the sound of Ernie's laughter.

Joseph, that's a good one.... I also was a fan of The Fast Show. Now with regard to clean houses, I believe it's generally accepted nowadays that people who live in surgically sanitised houses quite often have a lower immunity threshold than the rest of us plebs who voluntarily choose to live in a state of unhoovered mayhem, and yet curiously aren't constantly found clogging up the doctors' surgery with minor ailments...
For what it's worth, I don't recall Ernie ever having been ill, so maybe there's a pearl of wisdom to be gleaned here.
Furthermore my own appearance at the quack's normally coincides with the appearance of Halley's comet.....so please feel free to arrive at your own conclusions on that one.

What does it matter if the bed's not made, the windows not cleaned, fluff and dust everywhere and mucky floors, brasses not rubbed, scum line on the bath, (if he has one... ) he's happy that's all that matters. His laughter comes from deep within he loves his life. His work in the fields come first. Leave him be...
