Ernie's Baxter-jar has gone; his real leather belt not quite.

I take it there's not bath or wash facilities in the property.

Nice to see him looking happy. He seemed so despondent in the other pictures .

This splendid photograph is a depiction of a bygone domestic age, that was being portrayed in a 1998 environment.
When modern domestic labour saving devices had replaced that period of time, that many of us remember.
Dolly tubs, three legged dollies, rubbing boards, squeezers, clothes maidens. Fire guards, and fenders, meat safes. (My grandmother had a brick built coal fired boiler in the corner of her kitchen, my mother had a gas fired one,) sticky fly paper. Gas lighting, with delicate mantles. Knockers up. Alarm clocks, with a couple of bells on top. Often a religious picture. Sweeping brushes, and a small shovel. Donkey brands for the front step, and some of those housewives that did the floor of the toilet, across the yard. Clothes lines that went up to the ceiling. Housewives certainly had a laborious life, as well as family cooking.

Ernie looks more in his prime here, on the other photos he looks to be in a decline, poor thing, old age and illness is dreadful.
