Taken on August 6th 1970 on a trip to the French Riviera. Stopped by the roadside for a quick Woodbine. Ozy on left, John Heaton on the right. The vehicle was a Humber Pullman, fitted with a Perkins P60 Diesel engine. Exact vintage of the car unknown. RBG archive.

Linda
I will be thinking of you all tomorrow. Wish I could be there x

If it is a shovel it looks as if it's holding the car up.....is there a flat tyre? :-))

Come on Veebs, promise me you'll buck up.

Comment by: baker on 26th February 2017 at 11:24

I believe that they did 5MPG. No wonder Bob re-engined it with a diesel.

Comment by: Arthur on 26th February 2017 at 16:34

I can just picture Bob, (as I remember him from school, that is) driving around in a big Humber. It is just that in my image, it would be one of the Olive-drab staff cars that WW2 generals seemed to be so partial to.

Filling up with fuel whilst smoking????

Comment by: Garry on 26th February 2017 at 19:46

Should have added..or Perkins P60 Generator engine????

Comment by: . Ozymandias . on 26th February 2017 at 20:37

Come on Gazza, I'm a bit disappointed, I thought you'd have nailed it by now.

Comment by: AP on 26th February 2017 at 23:14

Did Bob also at some time have one of the coach built bodied version of one of these? I recall one regularly transiting Cansfield Grove.

Looked like this one: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/29/Paris_-_Retromobile_2014_-_Humber_Snipe_80_Landaulette_par_Thrupp_%26_Maberley_-_1934_-_003.jpg/1920px-Paris_-_Retromobile_2014_-_Humber_Snipe_80_Landaulette_par_Thrupp_%26_Maberley_-_1934_-_003.jpg

I have heard of a Perkins P6 but never heard of a Perkins P60. Is that the deliberate mistake?

Comment by: . Ozymandias . on 27th February 2017 at 17:55

Congratulations Mike, you're the winner of this week's star prize, which is, as much free ale as you can sup in an evening at the Brown Cow in Billinge. It wasn't so much a deliberate mistake as the fact that I was uploading photos onto Wigan World whilst at the same time filling in my tax return. Garry came close, as there is a Perkins P60 60kw generator. Enjoy your prize my friend. Tell them to put it on Ozy's tab.
