I got a few singles in covers like that.
I have the same record John, i was a big fan of The Beat Boys as were most local lads and lasses around that time.Go to Wigan World, Assorted, Wigan 60s pop group.
Sorry John, that should have been, Wigan World, Album, Assorted, Wigan 60s pop group. Better still, Google Beat Boys Band and all you need to know about them is on there.
John I think they were a Leigh Group. I remember them playing at Butlins when Georgie Fame was with them. I hope my memory's not playing tricks.

The Beat Boys got together again for a charity event at Leigh Miners Welfare on friday evening. it was a really good night !
Thanks for all the comments. I must have slept through that part of the 60s because I don't remember them and I don't remember buying the single. Seen many artists of that era, Stones, Hollies, Merseybeats, Searchers, Cliff and The shadows, Roy Orbison, Gene Pitney, Paper Dolls, Everley Brothers, and many more at the Ritz and The Empress Ballroom. Unfortunately I missed out seeing The Fab Four, couldn't get tickets!!!! Seen Paul McCartney though twice at the MEN Arena and Kings Dock Liverpool in 2003 performing his Back In The World Tour. Unbelievable!
Remember seeing them once, I think it was in a large marquee at the Wigan RU club, can't recall the occasion but I thought they were great and wondered if they would "make it big". Having seen all the fabulous talent on tv these days makes you realise just how difficult it is to "succeed" in the music industry.
has anyone got Gloria by the Wheels
I remember Gloria by "Them" fronted by Van Morrison. Is it the same song?
yes John it is the same song the Wheels where from Northern Ireland and where very popular around Wigan
You'll find it all on www.lankybeat.com
The song was written by local businessman Ken Gubbins (under the 'stage name' of Gordon.
Ken Gubbins owned thenewsagents situated near the gates to Haigh Hall near Wigan Infirmary.
'Third Time Lucky' was the A side, 'Thats My Plan' the B side.
I remember the Beat Boys very well in the mid 1960's and they were from Leigh. Ronny Carr, Ronny Simms on drums, Malcolm Grundy and Kenny Fillingham.
Used to see them at the Emp' and once at Rivington Barn, they used to run buses from Station Road in those days that took you there and brought you back, I can still see Ronny Carr that night in a salmon pink jacket. He looked a bit like Bill Haley.
I remember the Wheels very well, I think they adopted the name of The Belfast Wheels to differentiate them from another group at the time.
