The Golf Diesel is the first small family car to be released by a major manufacturer with a diesel which can compete with a similar sized petrol engine. It could averge 50 mpg. A good reliable car.
The Golf GTI was the first hot hatchback.
This was last on the road in 1999. 20 years, not a bad innings for a car
