When my Mam was young, her Mam died aged 32..she had two brothers and one sister. Her Dad had a shop to run {I think,in Wellington street Scholes)..he advertised for a nanny come domestic..and the lady that sounded the most suited came from Salford. He and the children met her outside Manchester town hall, and she had her 16 year old Daughter with her, explaining that "if I take the job..my girl must come with me".In time he married the Daughter and my Auntie Netta was the result.

Oh Maureen, she looks lovely! I am getting withdrawal symptoms for the 40s events after seeing this, and I have to wait until they start again next year to wear my new hat!

Lovely photo...& now I am going to be a bit picky...so many ladies I see at 40's events get their dress just right but leave their hair long as we do these days...just take another look at the lady again, her hair is tidied away in a hair net under her hat...just a thought.
