I agree with Josie, I love old photos & it amazes me how people took advantage of the new technology, because it could not have been a cheap outing to have your ' likeness ' taken before cameras became available to the masses.

Thank you for you kind comments Josie and Helen. I also like to look at other people's photos, especially old ones.

Great Grandma Hart was born in 1852 (not 1851.. I have just looked it up!!!!)
In 1881 she lived in what became Sellars pie shop on Little Billinge Road , with her husband Richard and first 2 daughters,Mary and my Grandmother Elizabeth who was then aged 5. They lived with her older brother William Hewitt and her Uncle John Wood (born 1815), John wood being the brother of Elizabeth Wood, my 2 Gt Grandmother , born 1812. I do not know what sort of business it was in those days but my Gt Gran owned property in Thomas St in Hindley and elsewhere. When my cousin looked at the deeds for his house he was amazed to find that, originally Gt Gran had owned the land his house was built on in Hindley.
Gt Gran Hart's eldest child , Mary, had a daughter, Alice, who married a Mr Sellars.. hence later the shop became Sellars pie shop.
Also, at that time, my grandfather William Winstanley, lived round the corner in Bold St, also aged 5.

Alice Sellars had two sisters. One married a Chapman, and their daughter Lily lives next door to me in Bold Street. When Mr Whalley's wife died, he remarried another sister, Jane and had 2 sons, Arthur and Joe Whalley.Joe is still alive aged91 and lives in Newtown
