Don't know if this has any relevance but I had a great uncle who left for Australia around 1880 and left his wife and 3 daughters in Liverpool. She later re-married but as far as I know they never divorced but there again divorce in those days was very difficult.
Must be a story here somewhere, for your Grt Grandmother to leave her husband & children for a new life in Canada. What was your Grt Grandma's christian name & was she a Wareing or a Cayzer ? I'm interested in any family history & by the way are you or were you a nurse at Wigan Infirmary Anne ?
Hi Helen her name was Mary Elizabeth Wareing (b1877 (nee Foster. She also had a daughter Jane born when Mary was 17 and before Mary married Walter Wareing. On 1901 census Mary and Jane (b1894) are shown as living at Aspull as boarders with the Melling family while Walter her husband and Richard (b1896) their son are living with Walters mother in Hallgate Wigan.
