c1952. George Bennet's Children visiting at 28 Holme Avenue, Swinley. George Bennet (1913-1970) was a Wigan Rugby League player who boarded with the Hallmarks in the early 1930s when they lived at 29 Upper Dicconsin Street. He was a young man of 18/19 and Eleanor Hallmark had been asked to provide a family environment for a youngster's first time away from home. George Bennet in 1934 has the distinction of being the first black man to represent England (effectively Great Britain) at Rugby League.
