The start of the last phase of the site in the early 80s,it was supposed to last 4 years and lasted for over 20.I believe it was Hindleys biggest eyesore,and it was only closed after a public meeting and it was made to go.Wigan Council wanted it to remain there.The area will soon be opened to the public and will be part of Amberswood Country Park.

Locally known as "the tip", you would drive up with whatever rubbish you had and just "tip" it over the wall. All sorts of things went over that wall! Yes it was a bit of an eye sore but the thing I remember most was the smell. I remember the workers at the bottom who would sort everything into piles, what a job they had! They didn't even wear masks, they just got used the smell I would assume.
What many people don't know is the housing development right next to it (Trafford Rd and Waverley Rd) used to be landfill too. Once it was full when covered it up and built houses on it - I used to live there! I lived on top of a tip! :\
