is this pic off millers ln
Down Webster Street towards railway.
I knew the sister of the boys - she came to Sunday school. She woke up one morning with 3 brothers, went to bed an only child.
There were actually 4 Meadows brothers who drowned on Jan 30th 1954 - Frank (13), William (11), Kenneth (10) and Arthur (9). They are buried in Castle Hill Cemetery, Hindley. They were survived by an older sister and brother, John (15 at the tme)
The photo is what used to be called The Perch Pit
This was where my 4 (not 3) uncles died - I've often wondered where it was. My mum was the sister mentioned. My gran - her mum - never really recovered from the tragedy, sadly.
I ,went to school with them, never forgot the sister who was a prefect at school at the time she was so strict
Strange to think of my mum being strict.
My nan - Bessie Meadows - never recovered from the loss of her sons, and was (unsurprisingly) depressed the rest of her life. Only the eldest - John - who now lives in Warrington - survives
I was there that day Peter Gorton and I was just going home from the Pirch Pit when our day went really wrong to looses all those brother as always stayed with me and what happend as Walter was afriend of Peter Gorton and I.
I can remember one of the last things we did together that is Peter Gorton Walter and my self when we made a cart together there are many more storys on people that is childern as well I can remember.
Still very sad to think it over again god bless all four brothers and there family not forgeting the people of platt bridge who went and stood insilence .
