Ron, I'm sure the Co-Op was constructed In the early 70s. I remember an advert for staff in the Post & Chronicle.I went down the day after, and the que was miles long, right back as far as behind St George's church.For a job.However I didn't join the que.

You are thinking of the Co-op supermarket which was on the bottom level of the Centre Arcade.
The one in Rons photo was a Normid store, which was the name the Co-op gave to their bigger branches. It was only open a short while.
Is that the Normid Superstore that I managed for a year in 1992?
I was only on about this today to a friend . She swore it had never been a supermarket and it was built for the gala bingo once the one on station Rd was closed I knew I was right hooray
