Item 32154 is a drawing of this. Cannot find it an old maps. There is Martland Mill Farm near the bridge and The Meadows an area near Meadows Street.
Peter I see the farm near the bridge has been rebuilt post 1930 - could this be the original?
Hi Andy, yes this is the site of the old farm house. We confirmed this when we were looking for the site of the Martland Mill site itself (it was Jim Meehan who sussed it out and I reported on it in our February 2021 Newsletter. https://www.wiganarchsoc.co.uk/content/News_Letters/news239.htm (it also expalins the confusion with the other Meadows site at the bottom of Frog Lane).
Where is the farm near Martland Mill bridge?
Ron, Andrew may be on about the farm that is lower down from the railway bridge on Martland Mill Lane, it was Waring's dairy at one time.
There were two brothers who fell out and one then opened a competitive dairy at the side of the shop near the canal bridge on Wigan Lower Road.
That's the only farm in the vicinity but I wouldn't say it is near the canal bridge?
It's down from the train bridge Ron when coming down Martland Mill Lane. Around the bend are a number of semi-detached and terraced houses leading to the small footbridge over the River Douglas.
I thought that was the farm as its the only one in the vicinity
