The road from the left, would this be Darlington Street joining Birkett Bank, and the road on the right hand side, would that be Liverpool Road?.
Albert, You are almost right, the road to the right is Manchester Road,
soon to pass over the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and on to Ince Bar junction.
Thank you Ray, In my mind, it was a toss up between the two.
You can see the Crispin Arms top middle. I didn't know the Bulldog site was so big.
WN1 You can also see Jack Mellings ( well known to many posters) chemist shop in the row to the right of the Crispin.
Further along to the right thereused to be a really good bakers / cake shop, but I dont remember the name.
The name of the cake/pie shop on corner of Ashton street if memory serves me right was Southworths
Jack Tomorrow's top right .
Before it was ‘Bulldog Tools,’ I seem to recollect it as being named ‘English Tools’.
Jack Melling's chemist.... wasn't he known as "Jack tomorrow". I rember going to him when I had alhtletes foot. He gave me some purple liquid (the day after) to put on a said "make sure you change your socks twice a week". Really!!!!
