My brother started working at keystone Paints, on leaving school in 1959.
I remember Keystone Paints from when I was at Hindley Grammar. I used to pass it every day.
I know nothing about this place, except that my H.A.G.S and Latics mate of 35 years worked here. Ken Barton ( R.I.P ) of 38 Bird Street got a job here straight after leaving school. Just curious if anybody has memories of him ?
I know his mate at Keystone was "Eric" who also stood with us at Springfield Park. After it closed, Ken worked as a postman in Wigan.
I remember a lad who went to HAGS Jimmy Partington(Smem) who I think worked at the paint works as an electrician, good lad.
Hi Pw, thanks for the “good lad” but I was nowhere near clever enough to attend HAGS, went to Argyle Street School. I could comment forever about the Paintworks. I remember Tommy Blackledge ran a pools syndicate which won them £50,000+ . A fortune in those days. Cheque was presented by a barefoot Sandie Shaw. The best part of the Paintworks for me was the bowling green, I managed to win the handicap. Happy days.
I worked there early seventies when it was Berger Paints, "Magicote" non-drip gloss was one of their products. I remember the social club and bowling green, just behind Balmoral House dentists.
Smem, always thought you went to the Grammar school but I remember you from St Peters choir
