Johnny Bradburn moved the business to Abbey Lakes. He probably took the sign as well.
Some of the other signs bring back memories as well - Moot Hall hairdressers (Ted Whittle's), Hilton & Leyland estate agents, and the Pacific Ocean Chinese Restaurant.
I remember this shop being J J Broughton's before Bradburns
Thats ok Ron I don't mind you hijacking the photo I posted in Sept 2010
Ron,
The sign has gone along with Rathbones, Pools etc.
Bradburn's had the camping showroom at Abbey lakes Hall long before the Market Street shop close. I seem to recall somebody saying that the old JJB sign was moved to the JJB warehouse.
Correct, AW. Bradburn's were open at Abbey Lakes in 1965 or 1966, when John Bradburn still had the Market St shop.
Didn't realise it was already on the site. I should have done as I commented on it. I found this picture on the internet. Obviously it was linked to your original photo.
I first started playing squash at the courts at the back of the shop after Dave Whelan took it over.
I remember going to JJ Bradburn's with my Dad in the 1950's to choose my fireworks for Bonfire Night. I think mixed boxes had just come into play, but I preferred to choose my own. Truth is, I was scared of bangers and Jack jumpers then. What a wuss!!!
Could anyone anyone answer this question. I think the shop with the squash courts was a different place to the original JJB. I used the courts roundabout 1975/6. I can t decide if the photo is where I played squash . I think the original sports shop was further down towards the old Tech.
Correct. The original shop was 76, now a chip shop. It's 2 shops from the junction from New Market St
Colin are you related to Annie Benfold who married Eddie Greenhalgh and lived in scot lane? She had sisters named May and Ellen aka Nellie
Sorry Gerry it doesn't ring any bells but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some connection
Remember when this shop sold model railways.
I remember Forshaws model shop on Market Street, they also
sold model railways. In later years,it became a branch of
G&I Models, they had a model railway shop in Library Street
and another in Warrington. The "G" was Robin Gibson, and
the "I" was Tim Ince.
I worked at g and I from leaving school from 1981to 1990 in library st,
Happy times very fond memory.
