That's Pottery Road changeline bridge at the back - with the Trencherfield Mill wharf through the bridge to the right. The boat is approaching Bottom Lock - so it's a bit of a way from here to Chapel Lane - which crosses the canal just below the next lock up, Henhurst.

Good picture, looks like it was taken in the late 80's or possibly early 90's as it is after Wigan Pier was done up.

Looks like it was taken from the footbridge near Swan Meadow Road. The chimney, now reduced in height, is at Eckersleys mill (recent multi-million pound development - well done for the industrial heritage preservation), and the car park is on the site of the old British Waterways offices which had been derelict for years when I lived near there in the 60's.
