Taken in 1983, an amateur aerial photograph of Roland Bradbury's used vehicle site in Spring View. The Old Hall hotel is just visible in the bottom left hand corner, next to the line leading to the Central Wagon works. I imagine the strip of water in the distance would be the flooded track bed of the line that ran to Wigan central station. Apologies for the poor quality of the picture.

I used to go past this works to go up crank line and then come out on Maple / Pinewood avenue when I used to go to Rose Bridge high school. I can remember seeing the old trucks that were being scrapped. I also remember riding motorcycles Over these fields in the late eighties early nineties, You can vaguely make out some of the tracks in comparison with the paths nowadays on Google

A nice rare photograpth and it shows how much has changed since then. One time you could see for miles but now much of the surrounding area has been taken over by trees. It's somehow lost the attraction and sense of openness that was once accsessible over a large area. What was once reclaimed land from the pits and distmantled railways still had some remnance left over that connected with others in the surrounding area. It's a shame now that you can hardly tell if there was anything there at all and it's been erased by earthworks and then left to grow wild. I quite liked the whelly loop line route through amberwood and i can still remember going along this distmantled railway up until it was detroyed in the late eighties. I suppose we have the large man made lake but it offers little in contrast to what was there before!
