My Auntie Elsie Cassidy outside the shop she owned at the top of Scholes not sure of year but probably late 60's

Agree with you, Karen. Looks more like Manchester Rd, Ince than Scholes.

I am pretty certain this is Manchester Road, in between Rose Bridge and Clarington Brook.

My apologises my Aunt did have a shop in Ince before moving up to Scholes so looks like I got the location wrong ...

Yes, very much like Manchester Road. Birkett Bank and the roof of the Crispin can be seen top right.

I lived in the Crispin, this is Manchester Road, a lovely photo and there's always the individual standing on one or another corner of the street in those days, which this photo shows perfectly. It also shows just how busy the place was.

The pub is definatly the Shovel and Broom at the top of Bolton st.

My mother was born in Bolton Street in 1911. My grand-dad frequented the Shovel & Broom.

My grandad used to stand on the corner of the pingy chatting to the other men wearinghis flat. Cap and scarf lived in bridgewater st my grandma was born in bridgewater st 1901

It is the shovel and broom. I have cleaned those windows sills hundreds of times.
