A friend of mine, Martin Ryan, Wigan and Great Britain Rugby Legend, was landlord at the time.

I was aware of major foods in Norfolk in January 1953, but I thought that this concert may have been related to some local flooding.
I,will make a guess that the flood mentioned was the Lynmouth floods
I was 8 at the time of the floods and remember seeing newspaper reports about Mablethorpe where people were on bungalow roofs waiting to be rescued. There was flooding in Holland and as it came down the east coast it got worse. Canvey Island was the worst where many lost whole families.
A poignant TV programme a while back told a story of a large family where the father got most children up into the prefab roof but mum and new baby stayed down until the water filled the pram and drowned the mum. I have never forgotten that it was so terrible. I cannot see anything like that would be allowed to happen now!
