The Cenotaph, quite rightly occupies a prominent position in the Town and is always immaculate, presumably the houses on Balcarres Avenue had not yet been built, but what year were they built?.

Den S, The houses on crawford Ave, and Balcarres Rd were probably built about 1948. They levelled all the top of the slag heap and put in cconcrete pads to build the houses on, they left the pads for a long time (seemed a long time) I guess to see if the subsided any, and when satisfied built the houses, I remember as a kid playing on the concrete slabs, we used to have a big bonfire an the top left of that photograph.

Hi Ken, I was born on Crawford Ave 1947 and I remember my dad saying he worked for a company called 'Bradleys' back in 1936-9 when they were building Crawford Ave, Balcarres Rd came much later I think.
