Yes I remember this picture so well as my friends and I used to pass by the stocks on the way to our favourite shop that sold ice lollies made out of ribena. Such memories!! Cheers Ron and Thankyou.
That was Taylor,s shop Lizzie, the end shop at the junction of Market St and the then dirt track Bradley Lane. I,ve had many a flavoured ice lolly from there. Mr Taylor,s daughter still lives in Standish.
Note the position of the stocks, hidden behind the iron railings!! Does anyone know when they were moved to their current position?
lizziedownunder. The shop you refer to where you used to buy your ice lollies, was it Taylors which was on the corner? If so I think they were Vimto! Did you go to St Wilfrid's junior school?
I can answer that ? Linda, Lizzie went to St Maries.
The shop belonged to Frank Taylor and next door was another shop owned by two sisters and I used to go to St Wilf's Infant & Junior then onto Shevy
End shop was Taylor's general sales, next door was May Smith's bread etc then Mrs Finch a private house then Amos Allen's fruit and veg shop, then Allen's living quarters, next shop was Sam Hale's grocery and butchers.
