The picture house in Scholes, Wigan.

It is a copy of the original which is still in the possession of our famaily. it is dated about 1932 and was taken to celebrate the cinema being adapted for sound.

At the back is my grandfather Tom Atherton, grandmother Margaret, my father Tom who died in 1996, and my Aunts Monica who died in 1983 and Wyn who died in 1999.

I went to The Scholes Picture House every Saturday afternoon ,Roy Rogers,Hop- along-Cassidy Three Stooges etc.,It was 3d. For the front stalls(wooden seats) 4p.for the back stalls(red upholstered seats) we alway went to the front to save 1d. An ice lolly cost 3d. O'Happy Days!.

the last picture( film ) i saw there was mother riley, that was in august 1951

1932 ! Sorry to contradict Tom but according to this picture, the film showing at the time was "King of the Khyber Rifles" which (according to Wiki) starred Tyrone Power and Terry Moore but wasn't made until 1953 !

Yes that was a later release. THIS film was released in 1929
