Look at the Congregational Church, I used to think it so Grand, with all those steps leading up to the door.. Lovely photo of how nice Ashton used to be...

What did the building used to be where Barclays Bank is now ?

it was 'the union bank of manchester ltd’, they were in business from 1836 till 1940 (and affiliated with Barclays in 1919) I have an older photo showing the building that was here before this one, I will put it on here soon.

It was another bank Scott. I think it was called First National or something like that.

The Congregational Church certainly brings back memories.
I remember being in the choir at Holy Trinity on a Sunday evening then being taken by coach to Ashton to the Cong. to sing on the radio programme "Sunday Half Hour".
All the local churches were involved.

Memories. I worked at Margarets Gown Shop until 1960 I emigrated to Australia. It was just up from the Congs Church and I think it still stands. Loved my years in Ashton and now have a grandchild called Ashton
