Poor picture Keith? I think that its a wonderful glimpse into the past. I was 6yrs old when this was taken, thanks for the memories and please post some more from this era if you have them.
What a fantastic photo, quite haunting and evokes some fantastic memories. Love to see more like this. Thanks
haunting yes can any one see the dog on the roof of the photo in the fore ground it looks like its got is paws on the roof looking over it are is it just me
Do you mean that rather large Highland Westie, created from the smoke of a nearby chimney I think?
The Lodging House, on the corner of Warrington Lane & Hardybutts, was "The Royal George Common Lodging House". Mainly vagrants, sleeping on the line..;o)
There was another at the bottom of Millgate/Chapel Lane, call the "Borough Model C.L.House"
it looks more like a spaniel to me
This is one of the best pictures I have seen on here. I keep coming back to look at it and see something new everytime. Excellent
CK Totally agree with you, I also keep coming back to look at the picture, it is the old Wigan I remember, great memories.
Thank you for those very flattering comments. I have to tell you that this is a negative that is so "poor" that I've kept it stored away for the last 48 years since it wasn't worth trying to get a print from it, but by the wonders of computer technology we can see something and thanks to Wigan World for giving me the reason to try.
i keep expecting to see the chimney sweeps dancing away as in mary poppins......more pls
I find it striking that the sun appears to be shining through in spite of the black and white and the gloom of industry. You can almost feel the day with this photograph.
