Remember the pub well. The little bungalow to the left was the reception for Gordon Ford's before the area was redeveloped. And the small premises to the right was Wm Booth steel fabricators

I was the head Barman at the Whitewash when Jimmy and Maggie Lynch were Landlord and Landlady,When Jimmy went out on a Saturday Afternoon especially if Wigan was at home it was very rare we would see Him before closing time,The Vault was the Smallest in Wigan in size,The Singing room was a fair size and was always full at the weekend,Jimmy Johnson played the Piano for quite a few years,The Cellar was a natural one hewed out of rock with a small stream running through it,Ideal for keeping the Beer cool and fresh,The previos Landlord was a Jack Eccleston, After Jimmy and Maggie left a Engine Driver Jimmy Booth got it Followed by Helen Picton. There was some Characters who drank there, I remember Phil Cadman every time you served Him a Pint He would hold it up look at it then run His fingers down the Glass and then Drink,Yes I knew them all it was great fun working there,

I am trying to trace a Jimmy Johnson who I have been told played in a band in the 70s/80s and may be the same Jimmy Johnson who played piano here, can anyone help?

Comment by: Albert Eckersley on 12th August 2010 at 16:10

The Jimmy Johnson Who played the piano lived in York Street East, But as far as I know is now deceased, I am guessing but he if still alive be about 90 or so.
